Whitney Houston - I Will Always Love You single front cover

November 3, 1992 – Whitney’s iconic rendition of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You” was released as a single from The Bodyguard: Original Soundtrack Album. The record became a juggernaut, topping charts all over the world and winning critical acclaim. The song spent 14 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, a record at that time and Whitney’s longest run atop the chart. The song won GRAMMYs in 1994 for Record of The Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance, Female.

In 2020 “I Will Always Love You” was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry, and in January 2022 it was certified Diamond by the RIAA. The music video recently reached 1.5 BILLION views on YouTube and was voted #60 on Billboard‘s 500 Best Pop Songs of all time. (Whitney’s “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” was voted #1 on that list.)
