Written by Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore, the song was first recorded by Linda Clifford in 1982. Whitney’s version featured production by Narada Michael Walden. It became a major hit worldwide and went to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100. Billboard wrote at that time, “It fully demonstrates Houston’s vocal beauty.”
