Thirty-three years ago today (June 27, 1987) was a phenomenal day in Whitney history — her second studio album titled Whitney debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200, making her the first female artist to debut at #1 in the U.S. On the same day, the first single from that album, “I Wanna Dance With Somebody (Who Loves Me),” hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, making it her fourth #1 single. The album and song were massive hits around the world. The album spawned five Top 10 singles and is close to RIAA Diamond certification.
