On December 5, 1992, Whitney’s version of the Dolly Parton classic “I Will Always Love You” hit #1 on the Billboard R&B Singles chart. It broke chart records at the time becoming one of the best-selling singles of all time. Recently Dolly Parton revealed that she used the royalties to purchase an office in a predominantly Black community. When asked if she could have performed the song with Whitney, Dolly said, “I would’ve loved that, but I don’t think I could come up to snuff with her though. She would’ve outsung me on that one for sure.” Enjoy Whitney’s performance from her South Africa HBO special.
