Whitney Houston’s ‘I’m Every Woman’ Hit R&B Top 5 In 1993

Whitney Houston - I'm Every Woman single front cover

February 27, 1993 – “I’m Every Woman” peaked at #5 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart. The song, originally recorded by Chaka Khan, had a second life with Whitney’s version. Whitney paid homage to Chaka in both the song and the music video, where Chaka made a guest appearance. Billboard wrote at that time, “Utilizing the original version’s instantly recognizable vocal arrangement, Houston belts with unbridled confidence and power.” The video was directed by Randee St. Nicholas and also features Valerie Simpson, who co-wrote the song with her husband Nick Ashford.
