On October 5, 1985 (33 years ago) Whitney’s single “Saving All My Love For You” reached #1 on the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, her first #1 on that chart. Written by Michael Masser and Gerry Goffin (Carole King’s former husband and writing partner), the song had been a minor hit in 1978 by Marilyn McCoo and Billy Davis, Jr. Whitney’s version was the second single from her debut album in the U.S. and third worldwide. The song garnered Whitney her first GRAMMY Award for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance, and later in the month of October hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100, her first on that chart as well.
