On July 21, 1991 (29 years ago today), Whitney’s song “My Name Is Not Susan” was released as the fourth single from her I’m Your Baby Tonight album. The song was written by Eric Foster White and produced by L.A. Reid and Babyface. The music video was directed by Lionel C. Martin, also known for his 1997 Def Jam film How To Be A Player.

The video pays homage to Alfred Hitchcock, with some elements of his film Vertigo which told the story of a man obsessed with a glamorous blonde and a brunette played by the same actress. Whitney plays both herself and a character named “Susan.” There was another remix rap version of the video with British rapper Monie Love, which you can view here.
